How do I learn the basics?
Get a copy of the ABPI Code of Practice, making sure that it is the current one (2008 edition, with a gold cover). Your company should have these, or they are available free of charge from PMCPA

The Code itself can be difficult to digest at first so one or more of the following will be useful:
- An Introduction to the ABPI Code of Practice, by Dr Joan Barnard - a short, practical summary of what the Code is, how it operates and what the requirements are.
- 'The Code in Practice' by Dr Joan Barnard – a book which covers how to follow the Code when producing or reviewing promotional material
- An orientation from a colleague or manager
You should consider attending a PMCPA Code of Practice Seminar. (If your role is likely to lead to your becoming a signatory, you are strongly advised to attend) This one day seminar covers all aspects of the Code, in a mixture of presentations and syndicate work. Seminars are held regularly throughout the year but tend to be booked up quite far in advance so this is worth investigating early.
