How do I learn more?
- Have you attended a PMCPA seminar? The one day seminar covers all aspects of the Code, in a mixture of presentations and syndicate work. If you did not attend one earlier, this seminar can provide a useful consolidation of knowledge. If you are, or are likely to become a signatory, it is strongly recommended that you attend a seminar at some point. Seminars are held regularly throughout the year but tend to be booked up quite far in advance. Click here for PMCPA contact details
- 'Code in Practice Workshops' are small group workshops, presented by Dr Joan Barnard, which cover the Code, particularly the more difficult areas, in greater depth and details than the PMCPA seminar.
- 'The Code in Practice' by Dr Joan Barnard is useful not only in the initial learning stages but also on an ongoing basis as you can look up points as you encounter them in the course of your work.
- As the Code operates on a case law basis, it is important to keep up to date with new cases which illustrate how the Code is interpreted. Cases are published in the quarterly Code of Practice Review. Your company will almost certainly receive a copy of this or copies are available free of charge from PMCPA
- 'The Code Reviewed' is a summary of the Code of Practice Review by Dr Joan Barnard . If your company subscribes to this, you can use it as an easy way of identifying cases of interest and the issues they raise.
- Ultimately, the best way to learn about the Code is by experience, so the more of this you can get the better. Take every opportunity you have of discussing issues with more experienced colleagues and your manager. If your own role does not offer enough direct experience, try to benefit from colleagues e.g. if you are working on a mature product, share experience with a colleague working on a product launch.
