How does a new representative learn?

It is important that you have a reasonable knowledge of the Code before you start work in the field, as without this, it is very easy to break the Code inadvertently. Your company will almost certainly include training on the Code in your induction programme, and provide you with a copy of the Code as part of this.

The Code itself can be difficult to digest at first, and difficult to relate to the practicalities of what you are doing in the field, so one or both of the following will be useful:Both of these will also be useful in relation to the compulsory section on the Code in the ABPI Representatives’ Examination, which you will have to pass within two years of starting work as a representative.

The most important point to remember is that if you are in any doubt about any aspect of the Code or how it applies in any particular situation you should ASK, either a more experienced colleague or your manager. NEVER just take an chance and hope for the best – you could end up with the worst result.
